CharityPaws Magazine Ad To Help Animal Rescues

Congratulations To Our First DonationMatch Winner!

Congratulations To Our First DonationMatch Winner!

We are thrilled to announce that the winner of our first DonationMatch contest is Ziggy’s Haven Bird Sanctuary! This fantastic group is a not for profit 501(c)3 that specifically works with parrot rescue. They are a no-kill group that works hard to ensure that their birds are placed in the right home with people who understand the unique needs for these amazing animals. With a food bill of almost $400 per week for the 200 animals they care for, we know this donation will be a big help for the care of the birds.

Ziggy’s Haven has a mission to procure permanent sanctuary for abused and/or aggressive parrots as well as a foster program for those that can be adopted out. The provide education on the parrots and how to care for them, permanent homes for un-adoptable birds and so much more.

Located on 12 acres in north central Florida, the facility offers refuge in its 2 large pole barns that have been transformed into a wonderful place for a parrot to live life including a flight area for those parrots to prefer to be birds as opposed to pets. A place they can live life freely, but safely.

If you have a passion for birds – then please visit Ziggy’s Haven Bird Sanctuary online and learn more about them!

You can also visit them on Facebook and join in their bird loving community!

Thank you to everyone at Ziggy’s for taking part in our contest and for doing all you do! We look forward to writing a check to you after our first campaign launch ends! Stay tuned for totals raised for this great group — although they are guaranteed a $250 donation from us – we hope it is a lot more!

So You Really Just Want Us To Make Money For You?

So You Really Just Want Us To Make Money For You?

I knew going into this project that I would have those that question my true want to give back, that they would believe I was only in this to make money for myself and I really do not care about the animals – and today was the day I was asked by someone who “thought” they might apply – but instead emailed me this: “So You Really Just Want Us To Make Money For You?”

So, I decided to clarify everything to everyone to ensure I am taken seriously as someone who does good and wants to do more good.

About Me – Jill Caren —- yes, there is a real person behind all of this!

  1. I am an e-commerce entrepreneur – over the last 10 years I have built, sold and managed several e-commerce websites. It is in my blood and I love it.
  2. I am an animal lover – have been my whole life, but circumstances did not always allow me to do as much as I wanted. About 4 years ago I started getting more involved in local groups and rescues with both local fundraising as well as taking photographs of their animals looking for homes. Did you know that doing those sessions take a LOT of time – I drive there, I take pictures, I get dirty, my body aches when I am done. Then I come home and edit those pictures, resize them, upload them and share them on behalf of the shelter. Yes, this is all done for free.
  3. Last year I created an entire calendar for a shelter – took all the images, created the calendar and managed the whole process – you can see that here:  Photo Calendar Fundraiser – again, this was done for free. If anything, I lost money on it – but it is OK because I wanted to do it.
  4. I have donated sessions for marketing campaigns for shelters, I have built websites for free for shelters and created marketing materials. I give – I give a lot.
  5. I wanted to find a way I can combine my skills in e-commerce and my love of animals to be able to GIVE BACK while still making money to support my family (yes, I have to pay bills too). I cannot continue to work a full time job and still do the charity work I want to do  – it is too much on my family and too much on me. So I created CharityPaws so I can combine it all. A way for me to earn an income – and give back to charities. I could have just built a regular e-commerce site and made more money, but I chose not to. I chose to give my profits back to groups that need it – I thought it would be a good thing.
  6. I have chosen to carry only products made by small artisans or that are made under Fair Trade guidelines so I am not only helping animals, but small businesses who care about quality and women and children in other countries that work under Fair Trade guidelines which allow them to have a better quality of life in countries that have so little.

The Numbers –

So since I was asked several times – here it is.

For our custom apparel, here is the breakdown – this is based on a standard t-shirt:

  • Printed 1 color t-shirt:  $8.58 (this will be reduced if we sell more shirts, so yes, the final profit may be more on a more successful campaign)
  • Shipping to me:  .30 cents per shirt (I have to order a minimum with my lab – so this is the cost per shirt for that minimum order)
  • Packing to ship :  .75 cents    COST TO ME: $9.63

was-ginger-pool-59Our pricing has not been finalized, but if we charge $24.00 for the shirt and $5.99 for shipping, we get $29.99 per shirt.

$29.99 – $9.63 for the cost of goods -$10 donation -$5.99 shipping to customer = $4.37 final profit.

Now from that profit I have to pay the following:

  • Website hosting
  • Website maintenance
  • T-Shirt Designer (who creates the shirts for the charities)
  • Social Media Consultant (who helps market the charities each week)
  • Mailing list fees
  • Merchant/Paypal fees
  • State Business Tax
  • Federal Business Tax

These are the main costs associated with the business, but not the full list. But I hope it gives you an idea of what we are doing and how the financial component weighs in.

Now with all this said, I did not have to release this information – this is a business created from the heart, and I hoped people could see it as such without me needing to explain it. Also, not only are we fundraising for our partners – we are your marketing team for a whole week. We are doing all the work on your behalf so you get the biggest donation possible – is it wrong that we get reimbursed?

I structured it in a way that if it is a success, yes, I will be able to make money —  but the charities I work with will make more. Although someday I would love to find myself rich – who doesn’t – CharityPaws is probably not going to get me there.

It is a project of passion and love, for me and the consultants I have working with me who have graciously reduced their rates because they believe in it!

If you are still a naysayer and are not trusting – I get it, I really do. We are being as diligent on our end with making sure we are bringing in groups that are honest and have a great following and no bad press. So we get the lack of trust —- but hope this will show you, the true intention of the CharityPaws team — is to bring you help.

I hope by being as transparent as possible – it will help earn the trust ….and if you have any specific questions, please do not hesitate to contact me personally at jill@charitypaws.com.

Now for those that read this far — and are on board — let’s go raise lots of money for the animals! 🙂

Welcome to CharityPaws!

Welcome to CharityPaws!

CharityPaws is a dream come true for me! After spending years trying to figure out a way I can use my years of experience in e-commerce to benefit animals – CharityPaws has finally come to life! I cannot put into words the excitement about the launch of this website and hope that it will be a true success so that we can raise much needed funds for animal charities all over the world. We have some great ideas to implement as we grow to offer more opportunities to raise funds and am so looking forward to the stories and images of how the funds we raise will be used by our partners.

CharityPaws is not just a business to me, but a part of who I am. I truly believe it is what I am meant to do — and I hope to do it incredibly well!

Helping animals is something I have wanted to do for many years, and I do what I can when I can – but with a family and a busy life, sometimes I cannot do as much as I want to. Now, I can. By combining my career with my love for animals — I can commit full time to helping animals and the people who help them!

This will be an amazing roller coaster ride filled with stress, change, fun, creativity and most of all happiness when I am able to write a check to our partners that I know can possible save even just one more life!

I have spent years on social media watching different groups and organizations beg for money to help just “one more animal”. I have seen great charity groups have to close shop because the funds have run low and donations are not coming in as quickly as the animals who need care are. Watching animals be euthanized or have to suffer because there are not enough funds to help them, should not happen. By launching CharityPaws, I am hoping to be able to make a difference – because every little bit helps!

The t-shirt idea came to me a while ago, I wanted something that would pull people in. Every week will be a new design for our partner of the week. I wanted to create something fashionable that makes a statement and is comfortable – something people would be proud to wear outside of the house! I wanted a place where smaller artists and indie pet product lines could come to offer their goods. All of our products will be US made and support small business — because that is how I roll!

I am incredibly excited about the official launch of CharityPaws – and hope our partners will be excited about working with us.

…this is a dream come true!
