If your dog is anything like mine, those hard crunchy dog treats are their favorites.
While I do occasionally make some Gummy Dog Treats and even Frozen Dog Treats, it is the crunchiest ones my dog goes nuts for.
Which is why this recipe for blueberry dog treats, homemade and healthy is on my list of things to make often for my pup.
This Blueberry Granola dog treat recipe was an experiment I did based off a human version I wanted to make.
Took me a couple of tries to get it right, but this is the version my dog loved and I hope yours will too.
For the granola you can either make your own with some fresh or dried blueberries and a variety of oats.
Ingredients
- 1 cup all purpose flour
- 1 1/2 cup whole wheat flour
- 1/2 cup blueberry granola (I used this granola which I had on hand)
- 3/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1 cup hot water
- 1/4 cup vegetable oil
You will also need the following items:
- Cookie cutter – you can use any shape, I used this set of bone cookie cutters for mine
- Mixing bowl
- Whisk or stirrer
- Rolling pin
- Baking sheet
Instructions
1 | Preheat oven to 350 degrees
2 | Add dry ingredients to a mixing bowl and whisk together
3 | Add hot water and oil to dry mixture and mix until thoroughly combined
4 | Place dough on lightly floured surface and knead for approximately 3 minutes – do not over knead as it might lose some of the pliability you need
5 | Roll out dough to about 3/4 inch thickness
6 | Cut with cookie cutter, if it seems to sticky to cut smooth you can dip the cutter in flour first
7 | Place cut pieces on lightly greased cookie sheet about 1″ apart
8 | Bake for 20 minutes
9 | Remove from oven and let cool, I like to use a cookie rack to help them crisp up a bit more
10 | Place in airtight container to store
