Sundays Fresh Air Dried Food For Dogs

What happens when an animal loving engineer marries a veterinarian and their dog gets sick.

Well, they become obsessed with dog health of course.

That obsession then leads to the creation of Sundays Dog Food.

A fresh dog food that is everything it should be, healthy and filled with ingredients that does a body good.

This is the short version of the story of Dr. Tory Waxman and her engineer husband Michael. Dr. Waxman has a strong academic background earning a BS in animal sciences with a Distinction in Research from Cornell University.

Then she went on to the University of Pennsylvania to earn her vet degree.

Finally her experiences brought her to an internship at the Animal Medical Center in NY.

So, with that said, knowing her education and experience, it gives me much more confidence in giving Sundays a shot.

Cleo's Sundays Meal Plan

So what’s up with the name?

Wondering about the name are you, I mean Sundays does not scream dog food!

Well, their premise is that they wanted to make dog food as “easy as Sunday morning”.

Their air-dried dog food is like a bowl of cereal, you pour it and then can go watch those cartoons on the tele.

This is not a Sunday Food For Dogs review – but an informational article just letting you know the brand exists! I do not do reviews of pet food or give buying recommendations as that is a conversation you should have with your vet. I know other websites offer reviews and recommendations, but I do not feel comfortable doing that. If I do test a food with my dog, I will share that information with you though!

With all that said, after reading what I have about the dog food, Sundays, I will be giving it a try.

Especially with the special promotion they have for Black Friday (see below), I am not missing the chance to make a difference.

When I do, I will definitely share some thoughts after Cleo the dog does what she does best, testing out the goods.

Sundays “Blackout” For Black Dog Rescues

You may or may not be aware that there is something called “black dog syndrome” in the animal rescue community.

Black dog syndrome is the issue of black dogs being the first to be euthanized or the last to be adopted.

Sundays is trying to make an impact here and bring the message to the public that this needs to change.

They ran a special promotion from November 26, 2021 through November 30, 2021 – Sundays will be promoting their special edition “Black Dog Project” cereal projects to help combat Black Dog Syndrome.

Check back each Black Friday to see if they run similar promotions.

This special edition box will also be the debut of their chicken food recipe.

Oh – and that is not all.

100% of proceeds from all boxes sold will be donated to Labradors and Friends Dog Rescue.

The hope is that this campaign can help black and aging dogs find themselves in a comfy home with lots of love.

There will be two purchasing options:

  • 72 ounce chicken recipe for $95
  • 36 ounce chicken recipe for $59

If you decide to give Sundays Food for Dogs a try, you can also save 30% on your first 3 boxes during this campaign!

Sunday Dog Food Ingredients

Sunday food for dogs box

A newer kid on the pet food block, what makes Sunday more unique than some of the competition is that their food is air-dried.

I did not know what that meant either.

But let’s try and break this down and understand why this is a great dog food option.

Air-dried food means it undergoes a process that essentially removes the moisture from ingredients.

But Sunday implements this process in a very slow way to ensure germs and moisture are removed while the flavors and nutrients stay.

For those that have concerns about “raw” dog foods, this might be a good option.

Sunday prides themselves on the fact they use human grade ingredients for every item they create.

Regular kibble manufacturers make claims that they have added minerals and vitamins to their blends, but with Sunday it is in the food because they use fresh human food.

No additives needed.

Their food is also over 90% fresh meat, organs and bones which we know your pup will love.

So let’s take a look at the list of ingredients for their beef dog food recipe.

Yes, it is OK to be in awe that you know what they all are.

  • USDA Beef
  • Beef Heart
  • Beef Liver
  • Beef Bone
  • Quinoa
  • Pumpkin
  • Wild Salmon Oil
  • Sunflower Oil
  • Zucchini
  • Kale
  • Flaxseed
  • Sea Salt
  • Parsley
  • Kelp
  • Chicory Root
  • TurmericMixed Tocopherols
  • Ginger
  • Selenium Yeast
  • Blueberries
  • Carrots
  • Apples
  • Tomatoes
  • Shiitake Mushrooms
  • Broccoli
  • Oranges
  • Cranberries
  • Spinach
  • Beets
  • Tart Cherries
  • Strawberries

Their air dried food has been formulated to meet the AAFCO nutritional levels for all dog life stages.

This means you can feed it to dogs of any age from puppies to senior dogs.

Another thing I am really liking is that all the ingredients they use are sourced from local farms and human grocers in the Midwest.

Because every dog is different, Sundays for Dogs has created an easy questionnaire to help guide you to getting the proper meal options for your pet.

Here are the questions I was asked when I placed my order, I also added my answers in parentheses.

  • What is your dogs name (Cleo)
  • Is Cleo a boy or girl (girl)
  • Is Cleo spayed (yes)
  • How much does Cleo weigh (Cleo is 55 pounds)
  • Cleo is how old (I selected senior – over 7 years of age)
  • Is Cleo active – and how active is she (I chose extremely active – because she is a nut!)
  • How would you rate Cleo’s body condition (I chose ideal)
  • What is Cleo’s primary food today (Kibble)
  • Cleo is a (american pit bull terrier)
  • Does Cleo have a sensitive tummy (rarely)
  • Is Cleo a picky eater (eats anything)
  • Does Cleo need a prescription diet (no)
  • One last thing, who are YOU human! (first name, last name, email)

Once you enter your information you click the see my plan button and then the magic happens.

You will receive a custom screen outlining the plan that is recommended for your dog based on the questions answered.

I like how they break out the cost to a daily total to make it easy for my non-number mind to calculate.

They do offer a 2-week trial.

This offers you enough food for 2 weeks so you can see if this is the right food for your dog.

You can cancel, change or pause your subscription at any time.

For about $4 a day I can feed my super active, 55 pound of muscle pit bull an amazingly healthy food.

Not a bad deal at all.

Of course smaller dogs will be much less and bigger dogs more.

When I do the math on the current store bough kibble I am feeding her, it is about $1.20 more a day to get Sunday’s.

No contest when I compare the ingredients.

Shipping is included in the price of the food so there is no extra cost over what is shown on your custom plan page.

Storing Sundays Dog Food

Because it is a dry food, it can easily stay in your cupboard, no special storage needed.

Preparing Sundays Dog Food

So at feeding time you might think it is a ton of work to prepare this food.

Some of the other brands out there do make you do some extra prep when serving their foods.

But, you will be thrilled to know there is NO extra prep requirements.

You scoop it out and pour it in the bowl and watch it disappear.

Easy peasy.
