Gummy Coconut Oil Dog Treats With Blueberries

I am working hard to be a better dog mom and trying to create healthier treats, like these homemade dog treats that help with bad breath, than those store bought ingredient filled goodies I used to give my Cleo.

She does have allergies as I found out, so I am more careful with her diet these days and try to offer her treats that will not make her sensitive, dry skin worse.

The veterinarian actually suggested a few things, but when he mentioned coconut oil I was kind of surprised.

I did not realize dogs could even have it, but here I am still learning new things and sharing a recipe for coconut oil dog treats.

Since I already had coconut oil at the house, I knew this would be the easiest and most cost effective option to ease her itches.

I started by adding a little bit to her food bowl and mixed in with some chicken every now and then, but then I started seeing some cookies with it and decided to try that idea too.

The blueberries bring a ton of health benefits to your fur kids too.

They have a lot of antioxidants and vitamins which can all help to keep your pup happy and healthy.

That is where this recipe comes into play.

Below is a bomb proof, healthy recipe for dog treats your dog will love.

Gummy Coconut Oil Dog Treats With Blueberries

This recipe requires just 4 ingredients and is pretty easy to make.

The texture is similar to a Jello or a gummy, so definitely not meant to be a long lasting treat.

Ingredients

  • 2 Packets Unflavored Gelatin (0.5 ounces)
  • ½ Cup Coconut Oil
  • ¼ Cup Fresh Blueberries
  • 2 Tablespoons Water (optional)

Instructions

  • Place the blueberries in a blender and blend until smooth.
  • Place the coconut oil in a small dish and place it in the microwave, on high, for about a minute or until fully melted.
  • Add the coconut oil to the blender and blend.
  • If your blueberries are cold, this may cause the coconut oil to immediately solidify. If so, slip the mixture into the microwave for about 30 seconds or until the coconut oil is liquid again.
  • Combine the gelatin with the blueberry mixture and mix well. If your blueberries weren’t very juicy, the mixture may be thicker than it should be and hard to work with. If so, add a tablespoon of water in at a time and slip it into the microwave for 15 second intervals until it’s easier to work with.

  • Place the silicone mold on a flat plate or moveable, flat surface.
  • Fill the mold with the blueberry mixture. I use an injector tool to more easily fill the molds, but if you don’t have one, simply pouring the liquid or spooning it into the crevices will work too.

  • Place in the refrigerator for an hour or until solidified.

When you remove them from the refrigerator you will have these beautiful treats that your dog will be ready to enjoy.

Another great recipe that is filled with a bunch of healthy treats is our St. Patrick’s Pupsicle.

I promise it is not just for St. Patrick’s Day, dogs love them all year round, especially in the summer.

Additional Items You Will Need

  • Dog Bone Silicone Mold
  • Injector (optional item but can help with getting the mixture in the silicone mold easily)

Helpful Tips

  • Store in a sealed container in a cool pantry or in the fridge. Do not freeze.
  • You can use other fruits in place of the blueberries, as long as they’re safe for dogs.
  • If you use the paw mold instead of the bone mold, you will get less treats out of this recipe.
  • Do not use frozen blueberries. Trust me…I tried it…it doesn’t work.
